“And although I know that this may hurt / This is the great rebirth.”
ALISHA BADRU — “REBIRTH”
Recently releasing her new EP The Way Back Home, Florida based artist Aisha Badru transcends genres of music from indie to folk creating a collection of songs to close out the year on a perfect note.
The EP includes title track The Way Back Home, recently featured in Grey’s Anatomy, along with a mix of pre-released, as well, new songs.
Beginning the EP with “Graves” and ending on “Rebirth,” Badru takes her listeners through a careful and breathtaking journey. The acoustics, from piano to strings, create a soundscape that is serene yet powerful, encompassing all that she speaks to through her lyrics.
“We haven't healed a thing / We've just concealed the pain.” With “Graves,” Badru begins the EP in a way that confronts this necessity for healing and the need to confront pain to move forward. The transition the artist creates within the EP from “Graves” to the final track “Rebirth” is emotional storytelling unique and yet universal in a way that rings true to many. Badru sings “And although I know that this may hurt / This is the great rebirth.” “Rebirth” responds to “Graves” with an uplifting revival of self and the continuance of an emotional journey. The process of healing and renewal is portrayed throughout the EP, painting a complex and honest narrative of the growing understanding of our experiences and the world around us.
