Interview: American Vanity Talks New Music, Tour, and Change

BY OLIVIA LEON

With a debut album in sight, two new singles, and a tour on the horizon, up and coming alt-rock band American Vanity make strides towards establishing their new identity. The band’s latest single “Poison In Your Cup,” releases this Friday, dipping into a heavier pop-punk sound that compliments their more melodic rock debut single “Lifeline.” We got the chance to delve into new music, touring, and what American Vanity has in store for 2026.

American Vanity” is a change from “Burn the Jukebox”! What did the name change mean for you guys as a band?

Luke Vanchure: The name change meant a whole new chapter for our identity as a band, we are writing in a new style that we think people are going to really like. And we are all really proud of what we have done on this upcoming work and with what we have already put out.

“Lifeline” is an absolute banger of a debut single. What made you want to release it as American Vanity’s debut?

Luke Hoffman: We felt it was a very good gateway single. We have some music coming that is on the heavier side, but some music on the lighter side. We felt this was in the middle of the road. Honestly it just fits the vibe of our new direction.

The new single is so catchy, but simultaneously kind of devastating. You mentioned it ties heavily to emotional dependence and validation in today’s culture. Where did that idea for the song come from?

Virginia Franks: We’ve been on social media for quite a while, and we noticed that there are a lot of people who feel like they’re under so much pressure. Whether that’s from commenters or just stereotypes of how people should appear. We wanted to release something that tells people to just do what they want to do. It’s okay not to follow in everyone else’s footsteps.

You’ve toured before, but this Spring tour feels big! Does it feel the same for you — is there anything you're most excited for this tour?

Carter Dennis: Playing shows have become something that no matter where we play, I will always find a way to enjoy it. I always look at a show, no matter how big or small, the same way and I'm super excited. This year we are starting to play more original music and I am stoked to show the world what the band has come up with. Overall I am pumped to play this upcoming tour, perform with my best friends, and show people what we’ve written.

Are there any tours you’re excited to catch this year as a fan?

Luke Vanchure: I wish I was able to see Circa Survive on their reunion tour at the louder than Life festival coming up. The only problem is that it is in Kentucky. There will be more tours and shows coming up though that I’m sure will catch my eye and I’ll end up going to.

Stepping into 2026, what are the top five things on your bingo card for American Vanity this year?

Virginia Franks: First, an incredible summer tour. Second, have a ton more new songs written. Third, collab with some really fun and interesting artists. Fourth, continue to make more progress doing what makes us happy. Fifth, watch our album have a positive effect on someone’s life.

Finally, if you could describe who American Vanity is in three words to someone who’s never listened, what would they be?

Luke Hoffman: Timeless, authentic, progressive
