DBMK Releases “Chains”
BY OLIVIA LEON
DBMK, alt-pop band consisting of Kyle Knudsen and Colton Ward, released their newest single “Chains” today. Emphasizing their connection to the “underdog” and the “new generation,” the song shines a light on the hope the artists have in a world that so rarely gives us that. “Chains” may be the title of the song— the first glance, but in three minutes and thirty eight seconds, DMBK pushes past them.
“They don’t see what I see / And they don't dream what I dream / If they’ve got darkness in the corners I’ve got what’s in between.”
From instrumentals to lyrics, the tone of this single takes on the stressors of the world around us and offers a sense of optimism to cope, and to thrive. “Chains” creates a wonderful balance between its soft guitar and heavier lyrics, as well as title, allowing listeners to truly hear the entirety of their message throughout.
“If the worlds gonna bend then just let it / At least I’ve got a few friends and they don’t seem to sweat it.” The artists conclude the song drawing listeners to a sense of community and shared experiences. They create a space to let their audience know that even in what appears to be the darkness, there is light in community and in persisting.
