Interview: Lost River Fleet Releases Their Debut EP
BY BAHJA SMALLS
Hi! First! Can you all introduce yourselves and your role in the band?
Hello! My name is Ethan Bernich, I play guitar and I sing backup. Zach Hill is our lead singer and he also plays guitar. Morrison Sawyer-Lemeris is our bass player, he also sings backup. Spencer Mann is our drummer!
Amazing! So,how does it feel to have your first EP out?
It feels GREAT! These are songs we’ve been working on since we started our musical journey. And it just feels good to finally get them polished, recorded, mastered and ready. So it feels really good to finally be out. We can start dialing into our new material, and testing it at live shows in the spring and summer and starting the process of recording new songs. Hopefully within the next eight months!
Can you tell me each of your favorite songs on your EP?
I think the consensus of all of us is Lose Your Love or Chameleon. We think these two are strong standouts. The crowds usually love our song ‘I’ll Be There’ but those are our personal favorites!
For people who haven’t heard of your band, what should they know about you?
We all LOVE rock, and very wide ranges of music. And I think you’ll see those influences in the music. We love to have fun, live. It's where we thrive. Morrison (our bass player) brings a great stage presence and we all love to interact with the crowds. It's always a good time to keep the energy and get the crowd involved.
I love that! Where did your band name Lost River Fleet originate from?
Lost River is a river in upstate New Hampshire, in the white mountains. So we wanted a name that represented our roots and where we came from so we’ll never forget.
Is there a local New Hampshire venue or famous venue you’re dying to perform at?
Stone Church in New Market New Hampshire, we haven't gotten to play there yet and were dying to! Fortunately we’ve been able to perform at a lot of great local venues already. As far as famous venues, our band in particular, we love Red Rocks. It would be our dream venue if we had to pick one for sure.
Are you guys looking forward to performing your EP live? Are there any plans for a tour?
We have already been performing some songs (the songs have been recorded since August) so we're now tweaking and working on the new stuff and getting ready for that! As far as a tour, we’re doing a ton of shows here at UNH on the weekends. This summer, we're looking to do a regional tour (opening slots) here in New England and some parts of New York. Right now it’s really about getting in front of people as we continue to grow our fanbase.
Lastly, what was the inspiration for the cover art for your EP?
So ‘someone new’ is a lyric from our song chameleon. We felt like this was a good representation of what our entire album is about. So we took that along with a hand drawn picture of the door that we got from Morrison. So he hand-drew it, we enhanced it, and we thought it made a great album cover
