Luna Luna chats about being back on the road and their latest album flower moon

Luna Luna played at the DC9 last week and I had a chance to talk to band members Kevin (singer), Kaylin (drummer), Danny (keyboard) and Gordy (bass guitar) about their new album Flower Moon, which was released in the summer of 2021. Hailing the state of Texas, Luna Luna is excited to be back on the road and sharing the album with their fans.

Tell me a little bit about Flower Moon and what inspired it?

Kevin: We started the album during the pandemic. Working on it was weird, we had to facetime a lot, but when COVID restrictions were let more loose we finally were able to work together on the album. Being in our own space helped.

Gordy: There were a lot of pent up emotions and feelings for the album that was released in it.

Quarantine was a weird time for everyone, do you think without it the album would be inspired differently?

Gordy: Of course it could have been different. Kind of like the Butterfly Effect in a way, a series of chain reactions; who knows what could have happened.

Kaylin: A Different Color Doesn't Stay wouldn't have made the album.

Any personal favorites from the album? Do you think A Different Color Doesn't Stay is a favorite? Kaylin. Feelin Now is my favorite.

Gordy: I like Golden because I get to play the crap out of my bass Danny: Golden is a favorite of mine.

What do you think is easier to write a ballad(love song) or upbeat Dance songs?

Danny: Yes. Both at the same time.

Gordy: Upbeat ballad dance songs are much easier.

Kevin: Love Ballad songs are easier. It flows out of the heart. When there's a fast upbeat song, you gotta think about it more. You have to make sure it hits with the rhythm. Upbeat songs are something different from a love ballad.

Danny: It's the opposite! The fans are paying more attention to the beat. You can catch the attention of the listener with two notes. To tell the story of love is way more. It's a lot more intricate and different ways to express a real story of love. It has to have the high, the lows, and the unexplainable that draws it all together. You can play the wrong notes and you can still dance to it in an upbeat song

Gordy: Love is complicated.

Who would be your number one collaboration dead or alive?

(Danny and Gordy shout out Beethoven and John Lennon)

Kaylin: This is random but for me I would love to collaborate with a songwriter from Ireland named Sina (Theil). She's a pop singer who experiments with country music and I think it would be really cool.

What are you all doing after the tour is over since this is about half way?

Kevin: New music for Luna Luna

Danny: New music on a separate project

Gordy More touring in the later half of the year (2022). Everything is in the works.
