Bomba Estéreo Plays The Fillmore Silver Spring
BY BRENDA REYES
Bomba Estéreo is on their “Quién Ven Conmigo,” Tour and made a stop at the Fillmore Silver Spring. Bomba Estéreo, led by Simón Mejia and vocals by Li Saumet, brings Colombia to their fans with their music. Colombia has many nicknames like the gateway to South American, but a less known nickname is the land of 1000 rhythms (1025 to be exact) and Bomba Estéreo encompasses that nickname to the max with their style.
Their latest album, Deja (pronounced like de-ha), was released in September 2021 with collaborations with Leonel Garcia, Lido Pimenta, and Yemi Alade. The album goes into an electric mystical journey through songs like Agua, Tierra, Aire, Fuego (the four elements). Within the first few songs from the set, you got a taste of: Colombian cumbia, electronic cumbia, afro beats, and champeta style beats. The whole venue was transported to Colombia thanks to Saumet and Mejia.
The crowd made sure to stay in Colombia the whole night with songs like To Be Love and Soy Yo. The light production had me at one point thinking I was at a rave with 1000 of my closest friends. The combination of the energy from the crowd, music, and lights made the night feel like an actual party with Bomba Estéreo.
Just recently Bomba Estéreo was nominated for four Latin Grammy's including Record of the Year, Best Alternative Music Album, Best Alternative Song, and Song of the Year.
One of the highlights of the night was listening to a stripped-down version of Ojitos Lindos (nominated for Song of The Year); one of the biggest songs from Bad Bunny's album Un Verano Sin Ti. Listening to that version of the song had the crowd crooning the lyrics all the way through. Saumet had the spotlight just on her and with the help from the guitar and electric piano; this song will forever be a part of Bomba Estéreo history and Latin music.
Bomba Estéreo so graciously left us feeling amazing after that night. I can't wait to see them again soon. Check out for more tour dates here.
