Alt-Pop Singer Caroline Romano Releases Emotional New Single: “Panic Attack”

ARTWORK BY JOSH ROGERS

Caroline Romano, Nashville-based alt-pop singer, brought us her brand new single “Panic Attack” on January 28. At only 20 years old, she carries so much talent and poise seen in her lyrics. Romano sings about her experience with one of the worst panic attacks she had ever experienced in her life. Early in the song she sings “Staring up at the ceiling while I make it past the feeling / Am I ever gonna be okay?” Romano poses a question that everyone thinks about at one point, “Am I ever gonna be okay?” Her lyrics are emotional and intimate with listeners, accurately capturing how terrifying a panic attack can feel.

The acoustic guitar complements the rawness and intimacy of her voice. As the song progresses, the violin accompanies the strums from the guitar and takes listeners on a deep wave of emotions on top of the background vocals that feel angelic and cathartic to your ears. She takes us with her as she recalls memories that lead up to her panic attack. Her song calls attention to the importance of mental health and how young people everywhere are affected by it, but also reassures listeners that despite feeling like all odds are against us, everything truly will be okay.

The song carries listeners with Romano as she tries to navigate her life as a young artist in the industry. As an introvert, she struggles with being a young adult in general, something that a lot of people can relate to. She mentions the shock of aging another year, with emphasis on how scary it is to grow up and have to deal with life.

Romano closes her song with, “With the world falling down and my face to the crowd oh I think I'm gonna be okay” as a way to not only instill the feeling of being okay in herself, but with her listeners, as well. Although it feels like the end of the world, we will all be okay. The song brings comfort to those who feel anxious and are unable to process their emotions; Romano translates our feelings into lyrics we cannot express for ourselves.

Be on the lookout for Romano’s upcoming album Oddities and Prodigies set to debut on February 25.
