Alt-Indie Duo, OK Cool releases Fun, Catchy Single, “Time And A Half”

ARTWORK BY JOSH ROGERS

Following their 2021 EP Surrealist, alt-indie duo OK Cool, aka Bridget Stiebris and Haley Blomquist, showcase a dreamy pop sound with their brand new single “Time And A Half”.

The song kicks off right away with the beat of drums and guitar, and discusses the empty feeling of missing someone: “I never had to wait for you / I never had to wait no more.” The lyric repeats itself, emphasizing the lack of needing someone else and leaving listeners with the feeling of waiting for someone who we know will never show.

In a short, yet catchy, minute and thirty six seconds, the duo brings forth a nostalgic feel in their sound. The guitar riffs are clear and ever present in the song, reminiscent of an old memory singing, “Time’s not real / and it never was.” The lyrics are accompanied by the consistent drum beat, as well as a voice that sounds like an echo at the back of your mind. It’s almost as if the tune scratches your brain for a memory it never had; it’s familiar yet new and interesting.

The music video described by the duo as “insanity,” features Blomquist and Stiebris playing their respective instruments, capturing the two in a playful manner— in stop motion. The video acts as a trip down memory lane with features of a bright blue backdrop, a christmas tree, and an old TV that later plays a short clip to close the video.

The song ends with the late Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek saying, “you really make me feel inadequate,” referencing how the artists felt in the duration of the relationship; a feeling of missing something rather than having someone else complete you.

Between the two musicians, each brings forth their own unique aspect to the track, making their dreamy music easy to come back to and listen to again and again.
